Description
Wipana Jimmy is a Pitjantjatjara woman, born circa 1935 at Makiri Rockhole in the Western Desert near Fregon. At this time her family lived at a sheep station nearby where her father worked.
Wipana’s art is highly textured, bold and colourful. Her depictions of ‘My Coutnry’ reflect her cultural heritage, the significant sites, and the stories and events that occurred in her traditional lands.
Wipana’s paintings depict the large red rock formations at Watarru, and tell the story of the early days when children were using Dingo’s to help them hunt rock wallabies. Wipana’s cousin is the recognized, collected and widely exhibited senior artist, Jimmy Baker.
