Description
Jeannie Mills Pwerle is an emerging artist from the Utopia region of the Northern Territory. She was born on the 15th of May 1965 and is an Alyawarre woman. Jeannie paints the Anaty (Bush Yam or Bush Potato) story from her father’s country, Irrwelty in Utopia, North East of Alice Springs. Jeannie is the daughter of acclaimed artist Dolly Mills and the niece of senior elder Greeny Purvis Petyarre. Jeannie’s paintings depict the seed of the bush yam – represented by the fine white dot work. The thick colourful brushwork represents the flower and the vegetable. Jeannie’s style is unique and her palette is bright and bold. Jeannie often creates a flowing movement across the canvas through the intricate patterns. Jeannie’s work was selected to exhibit in the 2008 Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Art Award for the first time, which projected her work into an international audience.
