Description
Mary Rumble Petyarre was born circa 1957 in the Utopia region of Central Australia. Mary is the sister of Katie Rumble and her extended family includes well renowned artists Gloria Petyarre, Kathleen Petyarre and Gracie Morton Pwerle.
Mary's repertoire is quite diverse - she paints a number of dreamings including Women’s Ceremonial sites, My Country, Bush Medicine (like her sister Katie) and Body Paint Designs. This piece represents Mary's Country, this is the spinifex country of the Mountain Devil Lizard, an explanation of the best method to travel the country at 'Atnangker' and is something of a map or guide to the land showing significant sites and important Dreaming country.
