Description
The country associated with this dreaming is Mina Mina, a place to the west of Yuendumu which is significant to Napangardi women - custodians of the dreaming ancestors that created the area.
This Dreaming tells the story of the journey of a group of women of all ages who travelled to the east gathering food and collecting Snake Vine performing ceremonies along their way. The women's journey began at Mina Mina where digging sticks had emerged from the earth.
Taking these implements the women travelled east creating sacred sites. Their journey took them far to the east, beyond the boundaries of Warlpiri country to a place where the Desert Oak is prominent. The Snake vine grows up the trunks and limbs of the Desert Oak tree. The Snake vine can be used as a ceremonial wrap, as a strap to carry the wooden bowls laden with bush tucker, and as a tourniquet for headaches.
