Christine is a talented Yolngu artist from Yirrkala, a small Indigenous community located in the north east of Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. The Yirrkala community became well-known in 1963 when landowners sent a bark painting petition to the Australian Government to campaign against the opening of a Bauxite Mine.
Christine has also released a book with Lucy Van Sambeek, titled ‘The Tree of Life’. This is a children’s therapeutic picture book that focuses on creating a culturally safe space for Aboriginal children to express difficult emotions around their experiences with family violence. Through their organisation, ‘Metaphorically Speaking’, Christine offers culturally safe counselling and therapeutic services to Aboriginal women, children, and families, using both Western counselling methods and traditional Aboriginal healing methods.
