Gloria Petyarre was born in her country of Atnangkere in 1945. She lived a very traditional lifestyle as a young child, before moving to one of the established settlements in Utopia, NT.
Gloria is a dynamic force in Australian art. Throughout her career Gloria has been an ambassador for the art of her region. Her style harnesses an existential exuberance, dynamism and brilliance. These qualities coupled with her highly innovative and direct style has placed her in a unique position within the Contemporary Aboriginal art movement.
In 1999 Gloria won the prestigious Wynne Landscape Prize, which reaffirms her position as one of the most talented and renowned Aboriginal artists.
