Willy Tjungurrayi was born at Patjantja, southwest of Lake Mackay in the Northern Territory. He is a senior Pintupi man and the brother of Brandy, George and Yala Yala Gibbs Tjungurrayi, who are all respected artists from the Western Desert.
His paintings characteristically represent the Tingari Song Cycles relating to the travels and resting places of the Tingari Men in the Tjukurrpa (creation era). These stories are sacred; those initiated and entitled to them only know the full meaning.
