In Khatija’s paintings, she uses a colourful and stylistic approach. Her striking and whimsical graphics map out where essential bush foods are located in her mother’s and great grandmother’s country around Mt Allan in the Northern Territory. She utilises traditional iconography to describe and depict where important ceremonial sites are found, specific types of edible plants, landscape markings and women sitting around ceremonial sites.

The concentric circles represent the ceremonial and rockhole sites, with the U-shaped motifs depicting the women sitting around these sites. Her paintings often have animal footprints incorporated while the floral shapes are some of the bush foods from the region.
