Peter was first introduced to landscape art as a young boy when he joined his father, who worked as a station-hand, on his travels across the country. During their travels, the men worked their way towards the north eventually ending up at the Hermannsburg Mission in the MacDonnell Ranges, west of Alice Springs.

It is easy to recognize that artists such as Albert Namatjra heavily influenced Peter. Men such as Albert, who would paint and tell stories of life in the communities, inspired Peter. However it wasn’t until later, during his schooling days that Peter began drawing and developing his own skills as an artist under the watchful guidance of a teacher.
