The story of ‘Minma Marlilu’ is what Clarise paints. Marlilu is a cave-site with sacred stories associated with it. At the age of fifteen Clarise was taken to Marlilu’s cave by her mother who taught her about the sacred stories and about Country.

When Clarise depicts the cave, she shows the branching tunnels of the cave where the women visited Malilu to give her food and water. The black circular shapes represent the holes where she dug for goannas and rabbits.
