In his paintings, Clifford usually depicts a concentric circle that represents a sacred place of significance. Lines connecting to this circle are travel paths. These travel paths are the routes taken through the desert to reach the site of significance, essentially showcasing a map of the area of focus.

Flora and fauna that are related to these traditional maps are intertwined with each other. They are maps of areas that ceremonies are performed at, where to find these plants or animals, and how to cultivate the land using traditional methods that have been proven to work.
