In women’s ceremony, body paint designs are characterised by U-shaped motifs indicative of the breast, while linear or grid-like details are applied to and used to represent thighs and upper-body details. Additional features/iconography seen in Charmaine’s artworks such as concentric circles are also used to represent important meeting places, water holes or ceremonial sites. Lines linking these concentric circles indicate movement and travel between sites, as well as symbolically demonstrating spiritual connections or ‘songlines’ between those sites.
