Janine Brown comes from the remote community of Willowra, which is several hundred kilometres northwest of Alice Springs.

Janine Brown’s Dried Bush Medicines & Spinifex story from her country where spinifex grasses are the dominant vegetative component in Australian arid and semi-arid grassland habitats, covering approximately one third of the continent (roughly 2.1 million km2). During drought, the vegetation is sparse and the only ‘living’ plants are the spinifex and the mulga shrubs, which appear to be withered and dying. After a fall of rain, the landscape changes completely.
