Tanya was born in the Utopia region of the Northern Territory, a former cattle station located approximately 300km north east of Alice Springs. She first learnt to paint by watching her grandparents before developing her own unique and highly detailed style.
Tanya predominantly paints stories associated with bush foods and aspects of ‘Awelye’ or women’s business. Dreaming stories associated with bush foods are not only important in terms of their subsistence role in everyday life, but also take on additional cultural significance as demonstrations of knowledge of country.
